Alabama polling places offer accessible voting machines on Election Day
As Alabama voters prepare to head to the polls Tuesday, election officials are reminding voters that every polling place is required to provide accessible voting equipment.
The Macon County Probate Office, along with all other Alabama precincts, is using a new ballot-marking machine designed to help voters cast their ballots privately and independently, including people with disabilities and anyone who needs assistance marking a ballot.
Alabama polling locations use the ExpressVote machine, which features a touchscreen interface. Voters can make their selections on the screen, then print a paper ballot to review before it is scanned and counted.
Accessible voting equipment is not limited to voters with a specific disability. Election officials say any voter who needs the equipment to vote privately and independently can ask a poll worker to make it available.
The accessible machines are intended to make voting easier for people who may have difficulty completing a paper ballot without help.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov 3. Polls across Alabama will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
